Cost of Attendance
The Cost of Attendance (COA) is a calculation of the total cost to attend
school for one year. The Department of Education's definition of the
Cost of Attendance (COA) for a student is an estimate of that student's
educational expenses for the period of enrollment.
For your convenience, a list of approved Cost of Attendance items is provided
below. Please plan accordingly as no extra funds will be available after
you have met your COA each year.
* 5th year fees will not apply to students starting in 2014 onwards.
Direct costs + Indirect costs = COA
Direct costs include:
- All fees such as tuition, health insurance, and student activities, and
Indirect costs include:
- Housing, food, supplies, transportation, personal expenses, immigration
Your current consumer debt is not part of the COA, only educational-related
items are eligible. Which is why we strongly recommend that you plan ahead
and pay off your credit card(s), car payments, mortgage, etc. prior to
entering medical school. Paying off and/or cancelling all (or even part)
of your consumer debt before starting medical school will allow you to
more effectively manage your funds and stress levels. And help you avoid
consumer debt defaults that will negatively impact your credit score.
The amounts shown are the maximums allowed, but we encourage you to borrow
only what you need. Keep in mind, tuition and fees will remain fixed throughout
your course of study. Restrictions may apply.
