What are my options

Borrowing funds for your education is a significant investment. The UAG is committed to helping applicants and students make educated decisions about how much to borrow and from which lender. Because responsibility to repay all funds borrowed plus interest accrued is ultimately yours as borrower, it is essential to understand how the process works and your role in it.

Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara students may select one of the following loan options:

Federal Loans

As a result of the Budget Control Act of 2011, SEC. 502, subsidized loans cannot be awarded to graduate and professional students (college grade level 6 and 7) if the loan period begins on or after July 1, 2012.

Direct Stafford Loans
Direct Stafford Loan for a graduate student is available in the form of:

Direct Unsubsidized Loans are not need-based. This type of loan accrues interest from the moment the loan is disbursed to the school until it is paid off. The loan is given at a fixed rate*.

Direct Stafford loans have a 1 % Origination fee

Direct Graduate Plus LoanIs a loan designed to cover the difference between the Cost of Attendance (COA) and other aid. Expenses not usually covered by Direct Stafford loan includes; food, room and board, transportation, etc. This loan is based on your credit score, and also has a fixed rate*.

Direct PLUS loans have a 4 % Origination fee.

*The interest rates on Federal education loans change on July 1 of every year. Contact fin_aid@uag.edu for the current rates.

Who is eligible for Federal Loans?

Canadian citizens

You may apply for Canadian government student loans through your Province of residence. To learn more visit the Student Assistance Office of your Province.

Also, you can apply for private lines of credit:
