What is the Fifth Pathway Program?
xxxxxFor U.S. citizens and U.S. residents who have completed their pre-med college education in the United States, the FIFTH PATHWAY offers an alternative to ECFMG certification. This pathway to licensure is a unique program that has been sponsored by the American Medical Association since 1971.
xxxxxThe program permits qualifying students who have completed four years of medical training at the UAG to return to the United States and enter a year of supervised clinical training at a U.S. medical school with an approved Fifth Pathway program.
xxxxxAlthough applicants are accepted into the program on a competitive basis, the great majority of American students at the UAG, since 1971, have continued their medical training through the Fifth Pathway.
xxxxxUpon acceptance, new Fifth Pathway students are enrolled for one year and, at the successful conclusion of the program, the student is given a certificate of completion.
xxxxxThe University will honor this Fifth Pathway year as fulfillment of the internship requirement if the student has properly registered for "Internado" with the UAG.
