Medical Spanish Course

Communicating with your patient is of utmost importance
The Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara School of Medicine’s Medical Spanish course is for students seriously interested in learning a language, practicing their language skills with Spanish-speaking patients and enjoying a vibrant new culture.

Since 1935 the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara School of Medicine has educated and graduated more than 13,000 bilingual/bicultural physicians.  Our graduates are licensed and practicing in all fields of medicine and in all 50 states.

Their ability to communicate with their Spanish-speaking patients is a plus in their day-to-day practice. It also provides a great advantage when applying for residency spots.

Our School of Medicine students begin practicing their Spanish with patients through our Program of Medicine in the Community (PMC) in their first semester.  (Add link to PMC here).  It is through these clinics that students in the Medical Spanish course come into contact with Spanish-speaking patients and practice their language skills.

If you are interested in a health service area or profession, it is important to be able to understand your patients in their language and their culture.  Personnel in the healthcare industry that can communicate with their patients can evaluate immediately a Spanish speaking patient without seeking an appropriate interpreter or having the fear of mistranslation or misinterpretation.
