Visit
to UAG by President of International Hospital Corporation
On a recent visit to the UAG, Dr. Gary B Wood, President
of the International Hospital Corporation, stated, “the
Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara is recognized
not only on a national level but also internationally
by the prestige of its renowned School of Medicine.”
With
home offices in Dallas, Texas, the International Hospital
Corporation operates hospitals in several Mexican cities
– Hermosillo, Sonora; Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Monterrey,
Nuevo Leon and Puebla, Puebla. Costa Rica and Brazil are
also countries where they operate hospitals.
Dr.
Wood mentioned that “Guadalajara is one of the larger
cities in Mexico and our purpose for visiting is to learn
the medical and health systems in Mexico and to explore
the possibilities available for our corporation”.
UAG
President, Mr. Antonio Leaño Reyes, welcomed both
Dr. Wood and his wife, Sheryl Anita Wood. Mr. Leaño
explained that the School of Medicine is one of 5 schools
that have been part of the University since 1935. He also
proudly expounded on the amount of graduates from this
great University – 5,000 from Central America, more
than 13,000 from the United States and Puerto Rico and
a greater number from Mexico.
Mr.
Leaño made mention of the fact that presently the
UAG is in the midst of applying additional educational
technology that emphasizes and increases the quality of
a well-rounded education. Another aspect is the strengthening
of relationships with the corporate sector.
The
UAG President detailed plans on how the UAG hospitals
and the corporate functions of the UAG are being strengthened.
Dr.
and Mrs. Wood were given a tour of the health science
campuses.
The
UAG President Antonio Leaño Reyes was joined by
the Dean of the School of Medicine - Dr. Ricardo León
Bórquez; the Associate Dean for the International
Program of the School of Medicine, Dr. Francisco Martínez
Sandoval; Associate Dean of the Clinical Science Area,
Dr. Angel Orozco Bravo; Mr. Humberto López Delgadillo,
UAG Secretary General; Mr. Rubén Quiroz Vega, UAG
Private Secretary to the Administration; and José
Morales González.
