PMC Brigade Provides Support for the Community of Sayula
Members of the Program of Medicine in the Community (PMC) from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG), in cooperation with “La Tía” Foundation (dedicated to finding solutions to health care issues in rural areas of Mexico), helped the population of Sayula, Jalisco, execute a sickness prevention program and conclude a course for community health advisers.
Third semester students and doctors from the Faculty of Medicine gave talks to 70 students about hygiene, home accident prevention, dental hygiene and personal care. In addition, presentations were given to a large group of community health advisers regarding topics such as First Aid, bites and stings, suffocation, vital signs, injections, bandaging and transferring injured patients were also given.
Rounding out the program were 12 house calls, 70 checkups for schoolchildren and 50 medical consultations.

At the end of the course, each graduate of the community health adviser program was given a certificate and a toolbox containing medical equipment and First Aid supplies, which were purchased and distributed personally by “La Tía” Foundation President Laura Libman.
It is noteworthy to mention that the PMC, which is directed by Dr. Juan José Jáuregui Lomelí, sprung to life in 1973. It was part of a larger effort of by the Program of Education in the Community, ensuring the future of social action and the development of future health professionals through a formal structure.
