Visiting Doctors Share Experience With Faculty of Medicine
Translated by Megan Power
Renowned specialists from the Unites States kicked off the semester for the UAG’s International Program of the Faculty of Medicine. Each semester, specialists in different areas impart their knowledge to students in the program.
One such specialist is Dr. Allen Knehans, Professor at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, who, semester after semester, joins the faculty as he has done for the last 10 years.
Second semester Medical Surgeon Degree students attend Nutrition class with Dr. Knehans, who lectures on such topics as obesity, lipids and carbohydrates.
During this interview, he stressed the importance of such topics. An adequate diet is an essential part of every situation, regardless of the area of specialization the future professionals pursue.
Dr. Knehans showed his appreciation for being invited to participate in the international program, as he has for the last 20 times he has attended. He expressed how much he enjoyed each visit and sharing his experience with a wonderful group of staff and students.
Doctor Diane Hicks-Bick, professor at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, made her first visit as invited doctor to the program.
Cellular biology was Dr. Hicks-Bick’s topic, which she presented to first semester students, helping them understand the way in which cells interact with each other, their movements and death processes. These themes will be an important reference for the students because, as the specialist said, “To understand an illness, it is necessary to understand its action site”.
Dr. Hicks-Bick also said the visiting doctors program added diversity and experience to the learning process.
