Dr. Tom Garcia, Alumni Association President at Univerisad Autónama de Guadalajara Medical School

Houston, TX (Jan. 29, 2008)…The Harris County Medical Society (HCMS), the professional association for Harris County physicians, and the Houston Academy of Medicine (HAM), the scientific and charitable organization for HCMS physicians, installed their new officers Friday, Jan. 25, at 6:30 p.m., at the Westin Oaks Hotel, 5011 Westheimer. Dr. Tom Garcia, a Houston cardiologist, was installed as the 107th president of the Harris County Medical Society. He has been in private practice at the Houston Heart Centre since 1990. Over the years, Dr. Garcia has served the medical community in numerous capacities. He has served on the executive committee of Rosewood Medical Center Hospital, chief of cardiology at Sam Houston Memorial Hospital, chief of cardiology at West Houston Medical Center, and alumni association president at Univerisad Autónama de Guadalajara Medical School in Mexico.

He was president of the Houston Academy of Medicine in 2005 and president of the HCMS Southwest Branch in 1995. He also served HCMS as a member of the HCMS Grievance Committee, HCMS Board of Medical Legislation and delegate to the Texas Medical Association (TMA), to name a few. He has held many positions at the TMA, including chair of the TMA Committee on Cardiovascular Disease from 1998 to 2002, chair of TMA Heartcare Partnershipfrom 1998 to 2002, TMA Alternate Delegate to the American Medical Association from 1998 to 2002, Delegate to AMA from 2002 to present, and TMA Board of Trustee from 2006 to present. He also has been an advisory committee member of the Texas Medical Association Insurance Trust and Texas Medical Association Foundation.
