With successful careers well underway and thirty years after graduating from the UAG School of Medicine, a group of American specialists recently paid a visit to their Alma Mater. The specialists took a tour of the facilities, including the Institute of Biological Sciences (ICB), which played a formative role in their academic training.
The visiting physicians hail from and practice in many different cities in the United States, and the trip gave them a new awareness of the many changes the School of Medicine has undergone. The school has continued to improve its position and to stay at the vanguard of education not only in Mexico but also on an international scale.
The addition of a dissecting room is just one such upgrade from the era the visiting alumni attended UAG. Students practice for one hour each day in this facility, expanding their knowledge of the human body in a hands-on manner, one of the best ways to gain the skills needed for graduation.
The physicians also visited the library and saw the technological improvements including an electronic card catalog. Many commented on the improvements made in classrooms and labs.
Marisa Salazar Sanchez, head of the North American Students Association (NASA), said the doctors’ visit indicated “a desire, 30 years after graduating, to return to the University, to remember their time as a student, and also to enjoy the experience with their family.”
“Visiting UAG strengthens ties between students and the school. Upon returning home they will share this experience with others,” Salazar Sanchez added.
The group also toured the Ángel Leaño Hospital and “Ciudad Universitaria”.
