FINANCIAL AID FOR STUDENTS
LOANS
Funds that are borrowed to help pay for educational expenses. Loans must be repaid, usually with interest.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are awarded based on a variety of factors such as academic achievement, major, talent, leadership, and/or financial need. Scholarships do not have to be repaid.
MILITARY OPTIONS
If you are or were in the military, be sure to ask what your funding options may be.
GRANTS
UAG does not offer grants; we encourage students to research all the different organizations and foundations that help and award many grants dedicated to women, minorities, international students, etc. Grants do not have to be repaid.
FUNDING YOUR MEDICAL EDUCATION
We work very closely with the U.S. government to preserve our status as a U.S. Department of Education (TITLE IV) approved program–which allows you to use U.S. federal loans to help you become a doctor. A significant advantage when looking for alternative paths to studying medicine.
A non need-based option in the form of a Direct Unsubsidized loan with a competitive rate.
A loan option that covers the difference between the Cost of Attendance and other financial aid received. To qualify for a Direct PLUS Loan, you must not have an adverse credit history.

Students who are not eligible for federal aid may still be eligible for private funding through private lenders. Students can borrow up to the Cost of Attendance less financial aid received.
Eligibility for private alternative loans often depends on the student’s credit score. Therefore, a cosigner may be required. Also, private loans tend to cost more than education loans offered by the Federal government, but are less expensive than credit card debt.
You can choose any lender that participates with foreign schools. Feel free to do your own research. And please contact the Financial Aid Office if you have any questions.
