The Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara is proud to celebrate one of its distinguished alumni, Dr. Tony Martínez, whose recent recognition at the University at Buffalo stands as a powerful reflection of his dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to patient-centered care.

In receiving this award, Dr. Martínez shared words that reveal not only his humility, but the depth of his gratitude. He expressed being “emotional, humbled, and overwhelmed with gratitude”, especially given the remarkable clinical scientists at UB who continually reshape the boundaries of medicine. To be acknowledged among such innovators, he noted, was profoundly moving.

Yet in true UAG spirit, Dr. Martínez immediately turned the spotlight toward the people and community who shaped the journey with him.

He described the award as a testament to every resident, fellow, and student who walked into his clinic with curiosity and compassion. Their willingness to learn, serve, and grow alongside him has been central to the success of their shared mission.
Dr. Martínez extended deep gratitude to the clinic staff, whose consistency and heart keep the entire operation moving. He described them as individuals who “change the world quietly, without titles or recognition, just by showing up every day.”

For Dr. Martínez, this award is
more than a plaque.”

It is a testament to resilience, to compassion, and to the belief that hope grows in the most unexpected places, especially those held together by love, purpose, and community.

UAG proudly celebrates Dr. Tony Martínez for this outstanding achievement and for the example he continues to set for future generations of physicians. His career is a reminder of what it means to serve with heart, lead with humility, and never lose sight of humanity at the core of medicine.
